Meet Our Equines
These very special horses and ponies are more than pets to me, they are my friends, family and co-workers. We have found each other, not by searching, but by having open hearts. What I teach in my lesson program is respect and love for all creatures big and small. They are the true teachers, I am a facilitator and translator.
EMS awareness
Equine Metabolic Syndrome affects an estimated 25% of horses. Some horses suffer symptoms most of their lives, some only in later years. EMS is characterized by insulin resistance and often causes conditions such as obesity, laminitis and cushings disease of varying degrees.
At this time, 100% of our equines have EMS to some degree, and are being cared for accordingly. What does that mean?
Some of them need medication, all of them need low-sugar, low-carb diets and fun exercise. If they don’t receive proper care, their hooves become inflamed and very painful.
I have chosen to cater specifically to these vulnerable individuals for a few reasons. My system of paddocks with monitored grazing works well for their needs. Also, there are so many wonderful horses suffering from EMS who are otherwise healthy animals. They just need a safe place to live with the right food, medicine and lifestyle.
Often when a horse joins my program it is a soft retirement. Controlled diet and easy work, not to mention lots of love and attention.
Do you have a fantastic horse or pony who is currently suffering EMS due to environment? They could be a candidate for my program, lets chat!
