Who am I?
My name is Candace, I was raised and live on San Juan Island, Washington State. I’ve loved horses all my life and for the last 23 years I have spent every day with them. Telling you about myself goes hand-in-hand with telling you about my heart horse Abbie (pictured right). The two of us grew up together spending our time in the vast heart of the island, enjoying life with our collective of other riders and their horses. We spent our days studying Parelli levels, trail riding, playing bridle-less polo-cross, vaulting practice, lots of bareback rides, and galloping (Abbie was FAST!). My childhood was truly enchanted by her magic, a gift that even now I find new gratitude for daily. As we shifted into my adult life together she stayed by my side through big changes, and our partnership blossomed into the business I operate today. With the help of the ponies, Abbie and I started a lesson program together in 2017. Since then I have been dedicated to our island’s youth, sharing the gift of horses.
Abbie left this world October, 22, 2022 but her legacy lives on through me and the lesson program. Today I operate from my small hobby farm where I live very closely with my animals. The connection I have with them is what makes our lessons special. I want to set an example of horse-human relationships that have fair, clear boundaries, and joyous connection.
My other passions include, but are not limited to, the raising of Angora goats, fiber processing, foraging for local botanicals, and creating my own horticulture.
